On behalf of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Alliance for Development and Climate Foundation was established in December 2018 by the Reconstruction Credit Institute (KFW). The aim of the foundation is to link development cooperation and international climate protection through voluntary offsetting of greenhouse gases within the framework of the 2030 Agenda. The aim is to generate funds to finance development and climate protection projects in developing and emerging countries.
The work of the Alliance for Development and Climate relies above all on the voluntary commitment of its supporters. They all contribute to the financing of selected non-governmental projects of offset partners by offsetting the emissions they cause. For its part, the Alliance for Development and Climate supports the promoters, among other things by providing information or setting up a network for the exchange of experience, and offers a platform for specialist forums, working groups, workshops and online seminars.
With its participation in the Supporting -Program, Nölken Hygiene Products GmbH has officially documented its commitment to the guiding principle of the Alliance for Development and Climate since November 2021. In doing so, the company has set itself the overriding goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050. In fact, Nölken has already met this target since 2019 by offsetting 100 percent of the company’s unavoidable emissions. However, the main focus is first and foremost on avoiding and reducing CO2 emissions.
"With the declaration of participation of the Alliance for Development and Climate, we are continuing what we formulated years ago as a guiding principle in our corporate philosophy," explains E. Markus Nölken, managing partner of Nölken Hygiene Products GmbH. "Sustainability has always been a central aspect of our work. As supporters, we want to develop in a targeted manner through exchange, cooperative collaboration and the promotion of certified projects and make an additional contribution.”
Nölken has been publishing an annual sustainability report since 2011, in which the company reports on the measures taken in the past as part of its sustainability management and at the same time submits a progress report on the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and a declaration of conformity with the German Sustainability Code (DNK). With its voluntary commitment to the UN and its compliance with the cross-industry transparency standard, Nölken has for many years relied on recognized initiatives which, not least, give expression to the overall social and ecological responsibility of companies.
