Two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett takes the lead role in TÁR. Blanchett plays the first woman ever invited to serve as the principal conductor of a major German orchestra. The film, directed by three-time Academy Award nominated filmmaker Todd Field, also stars Nina Hoss, and Noémie Merlant. The film’s score will be composed by Grammy winner Hildur Guðnadóttir, the first female composer to win an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Score.
Part of the filming will also include two regular concerts by the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra: on September 18th and 19th 2021, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor will be performed under the conduction of Stanislav Kochanovsky. This will include pictures with audience (no close-ups). Tickets for both concerts are still available through the Dresden Philharmonic ticket service (Saturday, SEP 18th, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, SEP 19th, 11:00 a.m.).
For make-up, catering and as recreation rooms for the film crew, there will be several tents and trucks around the Kulturpalast. In total, X Filme International has a team of 120 for the shooting in Dresden. In addition, there will be 250 extras. The project involves 93 musicians from the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.
Further parts of the film will be shot in Berlin.
In order to make the filming corona-compliant, a strict PCR testing regime will be implemented for all participants (cast, filming team, orchestra, staff).
Due to the corona situation, no press appointments are possible.
