German and international governments have been paving the way for the future of electromobility for years with numerous fundamental decisions. An increasing number of countries in Europe and the world intend to abandon the classic internal combustion engine, at least to a large extent, within the next three decades. Implementing the energy transition without compromising traffic, transport and logistics is based primarily on the development and economically efficient production of electric drives.
Since 2014, MOTEG GmbH from Schleswig-Holstein has been one of the young companies whose innovative strength, commitment and performance will determine the success of these ambitious goals. The European Commission also demonstrates its confidence in the capabilities of the e-motor specialists and their contribution to the European Green Deal by providing funding through the European Innovation Council (EIC). Growing demand for MOTEG GmbH’s products is proof that the company’s expectations and quality standards are being met.
By relocating the production site and company headquarters to the Schleswig-Flensburg municipality of Handewitt, MOTEG is responding to growing demand and the increasing requirements for state-of-the-art production and corporate management. Apart from expanding the production area to now 800 m², which will increase the production capacity to a total of 50,000 units per year, the company and its customers will primarily benefit from short routes in the future. The move now consolidates management, development & design, sales and aftersales in a single location, close to production.
"Through the move, we are streamlining communication and coordination between all departments of development, administration and production," explains Dr Siegfried Götz, founder and CEO of MOTEG GmbH. "This is our response to the positive development of customer demand, which allows us to even better cater to customer-specific demands and individual needs through faster response times."
Production at the new site is focused primarily on MOTEG electric power steering pumps and air compressors for electric buses and trucks, as well as electric accessory motors. An expansion to include main drives in the portfolio is a medium-term goal.
Currently, the various units produced by MOTEG GmbH are used by more than 40 customers in Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA. They are used mainly in battery-electric commercial vehicles and those with fuel cells. Their performance enables them to be used in vehicles weighing between 5.5 and 40 tonnes.
With proof of adherence to highest quality standards such as ISO 9001 certification and strict consideration of target costing and design-to-cost targets, MOTEG is especially qualified to meet the growing demand for e-mobility solutions for public transport. Besides the development and production of electric drives required here, MOTEG also supports public transport companies in the implementation of their future strategies by providing technical advice as well as carrying out feasibility studies and individual mobility concepts.
