Sustainability is as crucial in detergent production as it is in its use. Henkel, a global leader in consumer goods, is dedicated to providing environmentally responsible solutions throughout the entire lifecycle, including decommissioning production sites. To uphold these standards, Henkel has entrusted Maynards Europe and International Process Plants (IPP) with managing the closure of its Northern Italian factory. The facility’s equipment and machinery will be sold through a series of online auctions, with the first auction set for 19th September, 2024.

As experienced joint-venture partners, Maynards and IPP bring the expertise required to liquidate Henkel’s former factory responsibly. Situated in the scenic town of Lomazzo, near the vibrant city of Milan, this facility once produced and packaged renowned products like Persil for global distribution. However, due to strategic business decisions, manufacturing has now shifted to Ferentino, Italy, and other sites across Western Europe. The closure of this plant, originally established in 1933 as "Società Italiana Persil," marks the end of nearly a century of detergent production in the area. For Lomazzo, a small town with a population of just under 10,000, this transition offers significant opportunities to revitalize the town centre, which has long been shaped by the factory’s presence. Redevelopment could pave the way for new residential areas, cultural venues, restaurants, and commercial spaces, bringing fresh energy to the community.Maynards will conduct multiple auctions to sell the extensive, high-quality inventory, including filling and packaging machinery, maintenance equipment, processing and storage technology, and various general factory assets, allowing these items to find new purpose in other ventures. At the same time, Maynards and IPP will manage the complete site redevelopment, increasing the factory grounds‘ appeal and future potential.

Factory Inventory to be Auctioned on 19th September, 2024

As a global leader, Henkel has always utilized top-tier production equipment. The Lomazzo facility, which specialized in liquid household products, is now offering a wide range of production, filling, and packaging technology through a series of auctions by Maynards Europe.

While packaging and filling equipment, along with processing and storage technology for liquid detergents, will be available via private treaty sales, the first online auction on 19th September, 2024, will feature over 500 additional items. These include forklifts, compressors, machine tools, workshop equipment, storage solutions, office and cafeteria furniture, and a well-stocked inventory of spare parts.

Sustainable Solutions After Plant Closure: A Win-Win for All

The closure of Henkel’s plant offers benefits for the corporation, the region, the environment, and entrepreneurs repurposing the former assets. A professional plant takeover and industrial liquidation provide clients with efficient relief and an economically and ecologically optimized outcome. Under Maynards and IPP’s visionary leadership, the site has the potential to be redeveloped into residential or commercial spaces, creating lasting value for the community. Meanwhile, bidders can acquire top-quality factory assets and advanced production technology at competitive prices.

Samuel W. Tourier, Project Manager at Maynards Europe, stated: "Our clients value the reliable support and seamless process we deliver during plant closures. With our extensive experience, we provide sustainable solutions and effective relief, ensuring optimal liquidation of equipment, production facilities, and entire sites. Strong partnerships, like our collaboration with IPP, allow us to offer comprehensive, one-stop solutions, as demonstrated in the case of Henkel’s Lomazzo plant."
