In 2024, EEX will continue to hold Common EU (CAP3) auctions, as well as regular auctions on behalf of Germany and Poland, and on behalf of the UK in respect to Northern Ireland. Furthermore, EEX will provide the platform for the bi-monthly EU EUAA auctions, as well as one-off German and Polish EUAA auctions.
Common EU auction Platform (CAP3) auctions 2024
EEX will hold EUA auctions on behalf of 25 EU member states and the EEA EFTA states, as well as the Innovation Fund, the Modernisation Fund and the Recovery and Resilience Facility. CAP3 auctions are scheduled to take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 15 January and 16 December 2024.
Auctions for Germany 2024
The weekly EUA auctions on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany will be conducted on Fridays, starting from 19 January with the last auction scheduled for 13 December 2024.
Auctions for Poland 2024
EUA auctions on behalf of Poland are scheduled bi-weekly on Wednesdays, between 17 January and 4 December 2024, inclusive.
Auctions of EU emission allowances (EUA) by the UK in respect of Northern Ireland:
In 2024, the UK will auction a small volume of allowances corresponding to its share in the Union-wide cap, as the EU ETS applies to electricity generation in Northern Ireland. This one EUA auction on behalf of Northern Ireland will take place on 2 October 2024, with a volume of 1,170,000 EUA, subject to adjustment.
EU auctions of EU Aviation Allowances (EUAA)
EEX will conduct six auctions of EU Aviation Allowances (EUAA) in 2024, taking place bi-monthly, with the following timings and volumes:
• 24 January 2024: 906,000 EUAAs
• 20 March 2024: 906,000 EUAAs
• 15 May 2024: 906,000 EUAAs
• 10 July 2024: 906,000 EUAAs
• 18 September 2024: 906,000 EUAAs
• 13 November 2024: 899,500 EUAAs
German and Polish EUAA auction
EEX will also conduct one EUAA auction on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany on Wednesday, 16 October 2024, with a volume of 1,061,000 EUAAs.
On behalf of Poland, EEX will hold one EUAA auction on Wednesday, 11 December 2024, with a volume of 198,000 EUAAs.
