Adding this new destination to its global network, Aeromexico will operate three weekly flights on the Rome-Mexico City route, increasing to five flights by June 1. This will also benefit Italian customers from cities such as Milan, Turin, Genoa, Venice, Florence, Naples, Catania and Bologna, who will be able to access more convenient connections to the interior of Mexico and to Central and South America and the Caribbean.
With the new flights, Aeromexico’s offer to connect the European continent with Mexico will increase by more than 20% compared to the summer of 2022, operating 54 weekly frequencies. This is the largest operation in the company’s history between the two territories using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the safest, most modern, efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft available.
Pasquale Speranza, Aeromexico’s Regional Sales Director for Europe and Asia said: "We are very excited to add another destination in Europe, which is the result of Aeromexico’s constant work and commitment to connect the region with the rest of the world. With this new flight we continue to make aviation history between Europe and Mexico".
"We are honored to welcome Aeromexico and the new direct flight between Rome and Mexico City," says Federico Scriboni, Head of Aviation Business Development at Aeroporti di Roma. "According to IATA sources, in 2019 more than 220,000 passengers flew between Italy and Mexico, representing a high-potential traffic basin for air, economic and cultural connectivity between the 2 countries. We are confident that the launch of this route will help improve accessibility, developing flows and exchanges between Central and Southern Europe and Central America. After a record summer for North American airlines, which in October recorded +20% in passengers compared to the same month 2019, Rome is confirmed to be one of the most sought-after destinations for the upcoming Summer 2023 as well."
Mexico is one of the five most important countries in the tourism sector worldwide, receiving almost 32 million visitors last year. It is renowned for its beaches, colonial cities, gastronomy and cultural wealth.
Mexico’s Ambassador to Italy, Carlos Garcia de Alba, stated "The opening of a direct flight between Mexico City and Rome, Italy, as of March 26, 2023, is extraordinary news. It is the result of several years of work and is a recognition by Grupo Aeromexico of the potential of the bilateral relationship between Mexico and Italy. This new route will not only promote tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries but will also serve to promote greater economic and social growth between our countries. In Mexico we are ready to receive more Italian and European tourists in general. Undoubtedly, this flight comes at the best of times and will be a great success”.
The Italian ambassador in Mexico mentioned: "The reactivation of the direct flight between Rome and CDMX fills a gap that has existed in the last two and a half years in the framework of the excellent relations between Italy and Mexico: The direct flight is an indispensable tool to realize the potential of tourist flows between the two largest tourist countries in the world. The direct connection between Rome and Mexico City is also of fundamental importance for business travel and will help to further increase the economic-commercial relationship between Italy and Mexico."
The start of direct operations between Rome and Mexico is a reflection of Aeromexico’s commitment to offer the best air connectivity network, which by March 2023 will exceed 100 domestic and international routes, operating under the highest safety and service standards in the industry.
Aeromexico thanks the government of Italy for its support and willingness to make this route a reality, which will continue to promote alliances and tourism between the European continent and its country of origin.
