“Achieving the top result from EcoVadis once again for our sustainability management is an important signal to all our stakeholders and shows that corporate responsibility is part of our DNA,” explains Danny van der Hout, Chief Sales Officer at Saarstahl. “We are in the midst of a process of transformation toward a sustainable future, centered around the low-carbon production of steel. The platinum medal motivates us to continue pursuing our sustainability strategy and to take the next steps in the transformation with our employees and with our customers.”
The EcoVadis assessment is conducted annually and is one of the best-known sustainability ratings internationally. The underlying criteria of the evaluation procedure are made more stringent at regular intervals. The very good rating, which Saarstahl was able to improve upon again compared with the previous year, is valid until May 2024. The steel producer is thus firmly positioned in the industry as a sustainable and responsibly operating company.
The EcoVadis assessment is based on a defined scorecard. This includes the criteria of the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and the International Organization for Standardization for the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The definition of specific evaluation criteria enables worldwide comparison of companies certified by EcoVadis.
