In the one-year history of the company, MEYER RE can already look back on several successful projects. For example, in April this year MEYER RE was able to organize necessary repairs on the hull of the AIDAbella. During a regular docking in Rotterdam, an exchange segment was produced in a short time in cooperation with other companies of the MEYER Group, such as ND Coatings, EMS Maritime Services and the shipyard’s laser center. For the first time, MEYER RE also cooperated with the Dutch shipyard group Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC), which subsequently installed the steel segment.
The cooperation with Damen is based on a cooperation that was already started in March. The two companies aim to work closely together to secure worldwide repair and docking capacity for customers. Together, Damen and MEYER RE want to equip cruise ships with the latest technologies to reduce emissions. MEYER RE is currently carrying out concept studies using the example of a ship built at MEYER WERFT in 2017. Research is being carried out on how to convert the cruise ship to a methanol propulsion system. MEYER RE is also in charge of a modernization project for a cruise ship in Poland, which is now undergoing a complete overhaul.
“The aim is to extend the lifespan of the vessels and make them more environmentally friendly than ever before. The re-engineering work we are making and the new technologies we are using are designed to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions,” explains Alexander Höfling, Managing Director of MEYER RE.
MEYER RE has also positioned itself for the future in terms of personnel this year. The company has set up “REaction teams” covering the different areas of its business, from refurbishment or repairs to sustainability upgrades. Thus, projects can be implemented immediately and with the necessary technical expertise. In addition, the company has recourse to numerous specialists within the group.
As a partner of shipping companies, MEYER RE aims to maintain and modernize vessels throughout their entire lifecycle and ensure optimized vessel operation. This results in significant benefits for the customer, e.g. added product value through support throughout the entire life of the vessel. Customers of the MEYER Group are thus able to use the shipyard’s extensive knowledge even more intensively and in a bundled form, and thus receive, on request, the all-round package for the sustainability and preservation of the value of their vessels.
