Last year, lithium reached record prices, and an exploration boom was the result.

There are currently about 410 active lithium projects in Canada, of which about 35 percent are still in very early stages, according to Mining Intelligence. About a quarter of the lithium projects are in advanced stages. Most lithium projects are located in Quebec, followed by Ontario.

Investors who deal with lithium are always interested in the lithium price. In 2013, a ton of lithium cost an average of around 4,400 US dollars per ton. In 2018, a ton of the white gold cost 16,500 US dollars per ton. Today, the question is whether lithium prices will stabilize at around 26,000 U.S. dollars per ton, because lithium prices had to give way significantly. This is supported by the fact that the sales figures for electric cars are rising. Also, producers from China could perhaps reduce production to counteract the relatively low lithium prices. China, a major lithium consumer, saw a lithium carbonate price of around $90,000 per ton in November 2022.

Then the price went downhill. That’s because sales of electric vehicles weakened, while at the same time the supply of lithium increased. But now sales figures in the Middle Kingdom are rising again. Industry experts predict a spot price for lithium carbonate of around 25,000 US dollars per ton for the third quarter of 2023. So the lithium price is suffering from volatility. In the long term, and most industry experts also agree on this, the outlook for lithium is very good. Electromobility will continue to gain ground. This can be seen in subsidies and bans on internal combustion engines both in Europe and in the USA. If you want to bet on lithium, you should look at companies with lithium in the projects like Gama Explorations or Targa Exploration.

Gama Explorationshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/gama-explorations-inc/ – has lithium, nickel and copper in its projects. They are located in the Northwest Territories (lithium) and Quebec (nickel). There is also a copper-gold project in British Columbia.

Targa Explorationhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/targa-exploration-corp/ – has added three lithium projects to its Quebec projects.
