• Christiane Giesen takes over responsibility for Human Resources and becomes Labour Director

The Supervisory Board of METRO AG has unanimously appointed Christiane Giesen to the Management Board as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Labour Director with effect from 1 December 2022 or earlier. She will succeed Andrea Euenheim, who left the Management Board on 31 March 2022. Christiane Giesen is currently a member of the Executive Board of Aral AG, Germany’s leading petrol station company and a subsidiary of the international energy company BP plc, based in London. There she is responsible for the European B2B business with an interface function for the convenience and logistics business.

Juergen Steinemann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of METRO AG, explains the decision: ‘With its sCore growth strategy, METRO is focusing entirely on execution in the wholesale business. This requires pragmatic management that is closely geared toward the employees. With her profound management experience in operational business, Christiane Giesen has the ideal capabilities to advance HR work in a practical manner and to support the business in the countries. We wish her good luck and every success.’

Christiane Giesen, a graduate in business administration, is 46 years old and has had an impressive career with BP, one of the world’s largest energy companies, since 1998. During her career, she has held various commercial functions with a strong customer focus and today heads the European wholesale business with employees in seven countries and a sales volume of around USD 10 billion. As a strong leader, she maintains a close working relationship with works councils and trade unions.
