This year’s Hasselblad Masters is larger than previous years and has expanded to 12 categories, including the newest one, Heritage, which commemorates Hasselblad’s 80-year anniversary. The 2021 competition received a record-breaking number of over 63,000 submitted images, double the amount of uploaded images compared to 2018.
Following the closure of the Hasselblad Masters submission period on 31 July 2021, the top entries were then narrowed down by the Hasselblad Internal Jury, which is comprised of Hasselblad employees who are experts in the field of photography and cameras. Through an internal voting system, the task of this jury was to select the 120 Hasselblad Masters finalists resulting in the top 10 photographers in each of the 12 categories.
The competition now turns to the next set of votes needed to select the 12 winners of the Hasselblad Masters. During this period, the public is asked to cast their votes for their favourite entries from the 10 finalists in each category. Simultaneously, the Hasselblad Grand Jury, consisting of 24 members of the industry’s most respected photographers, established editors and industry experts, in addition to previous winners of the Hasselblad Masters competition, will select their top choices from each category. Alongside the 24 Grand Jury members, the Hasselblad Public Jury’s final votes are considered as the 25th Grand Jury seat for the selection of the 2021 Hasselblad Masters.
With a registered My Hasselblad account, the public is able to vote on the Hasselblad website until 31 October 2021. The final winner from each of the 12 categories will be announced in November 2021.
