- Pharmaceutical specialist supplies mainly schools, nurseries, authorities and medical facilities in cooperation with well-known manufacturers
- CEO Albeck: "Nationwide coverage for Covid-19 testing and vaccines must now be centrally planned so that we are ready for the autumn"
Because reliability in the distribution of vaccines, Covid-19 tests and medical supplies has become increasingly important in the course of the pandemic, the logistics service provider trans-o-flex, which specialises in the transport of medicines, has recorded a significant increase in transport orders in the pharmaceutical sector. "The core of the additional demand is currently the transport of PCR and rapid tests, which we transport and deliver nationwide on behalf of almost all well-known manufacturers," explains Wolfgang P. Albeck, CEO of trans-o-flex. The company delivered the first orders for the distribution of Covid-19 tests a year ago and this week passed the 200 million mark for transported test kits. trans-o-flex Express primarily supplies medical facilities, authorities, schools, day-care centres or even the central reception points of the federal states. "We are proud to be making another contribution to successfully containing the coronavirus pandemic with the nationwide supply of Covid-19 tests in addition to vaccine logistics. We are the only supplier with actively temperature-controlled transport networks for 2 to 8 as well as for 15 to 25 degrees Celsius and are able to deliver to any location in Germany in less than 24 hours," Albeck continues.
Major manufacturers have decided to use trans-o-flex exclusively for the supply of test kits. "Due to our experience and efficiency, especially in the transport of pharmaceutical products, we are the first choice for more and more companies and public clients when it comes to delivering medical or other sensitive products nationwide safely and according to GDP (Good Distribution Practice) standards." Another reason, he says, is that trans-o-flex offers the option of distributing both small parcels and large consignments on pallets or in entire trucks throughout the country in the shortest possible time via an integrated network.
Now plan and optimise vaccine logistics centrally
For the CEO of trans-o-flex, the current decline in infections is the right moment to optimise the supply of the population with Covid-19 tests, vaccines and masks for future waves of infections or new pandemics: "Now is the ideal time to re-plan the nationwide supply throughout Germany, not at state level, but centrally, so that we are prepared for autumn. As a result, vaccine logistics in particular can be made much more efficient than before: the administration of the federal states is relieved, and the health insurance companies, not least the taxpayers, can save a lot of money." trans-o-flex has been developing and implementing corresponding concepts for decades, for example for the distribution of flu vaccines. The company is always ready to make this expertise available for establishing efficient and reliable logistics solutions for other vaccines, Albeck concluded.
trans-o-flex’s core areas of expertise are logistics solutions for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and consumer electronics industries and other high-end, sensitive goods. The company has built up transport networks to carry goods at 15 to 25 degrees Celsius or 2 to 8 degrees Celsius actively temperature-controlled and documented in accordance with EU regulations for pharmaceuticals transport throughout Germany and Austria. These EU-GDPs require the highest standards for safety and security, cleanliness, reliability and transparency, from which all trans-o-flex customers benefit. trans-o-flex operates internationally via the networks EUROTEMP (temperature-controlled logistics) and EURODIS (in 36 European countries). In contrast to parcel and groupage services, trans-o-flex delivers parcels and pallets on a consolidated basis. trans-o-flex Express offers numerous express and time-slot deliveries, special services such as hazardous goods transportation (without minimum quantity regulation), consignment consolidation or direct deliveries. The range of services is complemented by warehousing, order picking and individual value-added services such as serialisation and deserialisation of pharmaceuticals. This means that the company covers the entire logistics chain from procurement through to fulfilment. The annual turnover of the trans-o-flex companies, which employ a total of around 1,954 people (FTE), amounted to around 515 million euros in 2020.
