A large variety of configurations is available allowing the cultivation of mammalian and insect cells for various applications, ranging from protein expression and production of non-secreted proteins to the production of secreted proteins, viruses and monoclonal antibodies.
The large specific surface area of 2400 cm2 per gram of BioNOCTM II Microcarriers and the specific design of the flexible reactor bottles in combination with the activity of the BelloStage® compressor, allow precisely controlled, alternating exposition of microcarriers to air and culture medium (tidal flow principal). This way, an optimal supply of immobilized cells with nutrients and oxygen is guaranteed and at the same time only low shear stress is applied during cell cultivation.
Depending on the selected cultivation method, large amounts of proteins (milligrams to grams), high numbers of virus particles (1011-1012 pfu) and high dell densities (109/gram microcarriers) can be produced eliminating the need to maintain numerous spinner flasks, dozens of roller bottles or hundreds of T-flasks.
Furthermore, a Mini-TideCell system consisting of two BioNOC™ II Microcarriers and one culture dish is available which can be used for pre-tests, scale-up experiments and process development.
