Monitoring production processes or infrastructures is a key aspect in business fields such as energy, civil engineering or process industry. One new innovative and cost-effective way of doing so, especially when it comes to harsh environments, is using fiber optic sensing. Not only does it detect failures at an early stage – thus minimizing downtimes, but it also guarantees the safety of the process as well as the quality of the end-product. Fiber optic sensors also present all relevant characteristics to be implemented where no electronic or electric sensor can. The new FBG-Scan 915-EP enables the measuring of 15 channels reaching about 750 measurement points. Being able to measure more channels with high performance, it offers a cost-efficient monitoring or scaling-up of the production as fewer units are needed to monitor larger or multiple processes or infrastructures.

“Given the development of the industry and its expectations, it was a natural step to extend the multiplexing capability of our measurement devices up to 15 channels in order to support more sensing points: Our customers are facing the issue to monitor complex processes requiring a lot of measurement points or multiple installations while in the meantime keeping the costs low. Our solution supports them to combine both.”, explained Dr. Johan Vlekken, CTO.

FBGS flagship interrogation device FBG-Scan 915-EP is an upgrade of the FBG-Scan 90X-EP product line. It reaches the performances of the proven 90X platform while offering 15 optical channels: the wavelength precision remains 0.3pm at full measurement speed and linearity at 3pm. Both precision and accuracy do not depend neither on the number of channels nor on the measurement speed. Moreover, the device is dedicated and adapted to suits industrial needs. The hardware is hosted in a 19’ housing with mountable racks to be integrated directly in industrial infrastructures / environments. In the end, EP means Embedded Processing.
